“…and His eyes were like blazing fire.” ~ Revelation 1:14
Have you ever been afraid of God in such a way that you won’t go to Him? Has it been so long since you’ve said a word to Him where you’re not thinking of 15 other things at the same time? Have feelings of guilt and condemnation sent you away from the gaze of your Savior? I’ve been here lately. I’ve been wallowing in unbiblical fear that has me running away from God rather than to Him. But then I remembered when I last sensed His eyes of fire trained upon me.
His gaze is refining fire, but there is no safer place in the universe than in the center of that flame, in the very epicenter of His amazing love for you. If we turn to Him, He RUNS to us (see Luke 15). If we submit to His loving, fiery gaze, we are going to become the person we’d always hoped we’d be. Except, here’s the funny thing—we probably won’t notice that we’ve become this person, because the more we notice Him instead of ourselves, the more we become as beautiful as we longed to be.
“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.” Psalm 34:15
“The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, but He overthrows the words of the faithless.” Proverbs 22:12
“…he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:8
So when you’ve done wrong, when you’ve stayed away for far too long, turn about and look into the eyes of the One Who loves you, Who searches you out so He can strengthen you, Who listens intently for your cry and who preserves you. Be blessed!
