I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me.
This past week, my son and I were at a playground. There were several other children running around playing on the slides and swings. As my son was climbing up to take a turn sliding, one of the small boys ran towards him yelling he was going to get him. My son took one look and slid down hurriedly and started running away as fast as he could. His startled expression is one I will not forget for a very long time. He did not expect to have this other child yell at him and give chase. After a few moments, he started to enjoy the game. They ran and hid and ran some more. Soon, he was running past me laughing as hard as he could.
1 Chronicles 22:19
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God.
There are so many times we are like my son. When God says “Hey!” we take one look and run away as fast as we can. We are not sure what is going on and we do not know if it is something we want to be a part of. God loves us so much even when we hide, He keeps seeking us. We soon take our turn at seeking God. When we seek Him, we find so much more than we ever dreamed we could. God’s arms are there to catch us as we travel the slide of life. He makes sure we never fall from that swing and we have all we need to climb those monkey bars. When we keep seeking Him, we soon find we are running past laughing as hard as we can with the joy of the Lord filling our spirits.
Oh if we were able to be as we were when we were children! With open hearts and loving minds. Always accepting of others and just enjoying the game.
God can give us back that youthful joy. He can fill us with acceptance and love for others. All we need to do is “diligently seek Him”. As we fill our hearts with God, there is no more room for the negative feelings or thoughts which come so easily to us as adults. We can go back to a more childlike spirit full of good ready to spread to others. As we grow in God and mature into the loving child of God, we become as we should be for those around us. Oh how wonderful to know as we seek Him and no longer hide from the wonders and love He offers us, what treasures we find. How richer our game becomes.
We may hide from the gentle voice, but it never leaves us. We may run from that reaching hand, but He never draws it back. Let us turn from hiding and reach toward that hand to grasp it tightly. Let us turn from hiding and try always to seek Him instead. Let us run to God, laughing from the joy of that very moment.
