Reflect His Beauty

“Pshhhh!! Of course I can have Stacey if I wanted to, I am Nate Bowman! The hottest dude on campus…hello!” Nate bragged with a wince as his buddies Ryan and Brett burst out laughing. They all sat around a table in the cafeteria sipping on sodas.
“Yeah man, then prove it! No one has been able to do that, it’s been said. Hot but tough girl,” Ryan half whispered as he looked in Stacey’s direction who seemed to be deeply engrossed in a book she was reading.
“She is my lab partner and I will be spending lots of time with her this week. I will be giving you something more than an assignment to talk about,” Nate said as he stood up. “Gotta get moving.”
“ Woah! That’s a deal man, we’ll see you at the pub tonight right? Drinks on me!” Brett said as his buddy walked away.

Nate ran his fingers through his hair as he rang the doorbell again at Stacey’s house. He had spent most of his afternoons that week with her working on their assignment and also devising ways he could lure her into falling for him. He was running out of ideas. Stacey seemed to be so focused only on school and had sternly turned down every suggestive attempt he had made towards her. Not only that, she was also the most amazing company he had ever found himself in. He could not quite put a finger on what was so graceful and innocent about her. In her presence, he felt comforted and at peace unlike the many times he had gone after other girls. What? Was he falling for her for real? He knew that she had a firm faith in God. That is the very thing that he had wanted to ridicule and prove to his buddies what a ‘man’ he was. No doubt He would be their laughing stock by tomorrow afternoon if he didn’t play his cards right.
“Hey,” Stacey opened the door as she smiled warmly at him. “Come on in.”
“Thanks,” he responded.
“So I was finishing up on our assignment and I was thinking it might need maybe a little more detail especially in the closing paragraph…” Stacey begun.
“Stacey, can I just say something before we talk about the assignment.”
“Sure.”
“I know I am going to sound like a total jerk, which I probably am…” Nate shrugged his shoulders. “ I made this deal with my buddies about getting you to fall for me just so I could prove a point. And I am sorry I did that. You deserve so much more than that. The couple of days I have spent with you, kinda got me thinking about things. Where I stand with God and who I really am. You didn’t have to preach at me or tell me some bible verse but just being in your presence reflected such a beauty I have never known before. A beauty that made me respect you and made me want to be a better person. So I am asking you to save me from embarrassment and please go out on a real date with me? What do you say?”
“First of all Nate, I am not stupid at all,” Stacey chuckled. “I knew exactly what was going on. I gotta give you credit for manning up though! I know there’s so much more to you than you display. As for that date, what do you say I take you to church with me on Sunday just as friends. That way you won’t be overly embarrassed.”
“So true,” Nate laughed. “Sounds good. I am glad that this week turned out the way it did. It has given me much food for thought.”
