What Do You Live For?

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

The majority of the people who call themselves Christians do not read the Word of God regularly. They make excuses so they will not have to. It says in 1 John 2:15-16 not to love the world. If you have a love for the stuff of this world, then the love of God is not in you. As it says in Isaiah 40:8

8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.

The Word of God lasts forever. Even though the desires of this world may seem good for now, they will pass away (1 John 2:17). It says in Matthew 6:24

24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Do not worry about the money. If your whole life goes by, and your main focus is to get rich, you will not see the need for Jesus Christ in your life. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 6:25-31

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

God tells us not to worry about the things of this world. The food we eat, and clothes we wear are and will be provided by God. All we have to do is have faith that He will provide what we need.
