160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
There is the pain of rejection by the person with who you were speaking when you present the gospel. It is even more difficult if it is a friend. There is the disappointment that they could not, or would not, consider the good news you have to offer could possibly be true when you know the truth in your heart.
The truth is no different because someone will not accept it. The sound barrier was once thought to be unbreakable. Many scientists, engineers and test pilots worked on this problem for years. Some died in the attempt. If we could count the number of times they were told it was impossible we might all shake our heads in disbelief at their lack of vision – as those who reject the gospel shake their heads at us.
The false statement believed to be true was that the sound barrier was something that could not be exceeded. It was easy and maybe even comfortable to live within those limits. The lie was shown to be what it was one day. If Christ was not raised from the dead then the world is not ultimately accountable for its actions to anyone.
Which was the truth?
Science and mathematics deals with formulas and graphs. These are truths. Apply these truths to problems and solutions are often found using physics and calculus. Christianity deals with truth. There is a difference. If Jesus was not raised from the dead then we live a lie thinking we have truth. If Jesus sits at the right hand of His Father in Heaven (and He does), then this is a truth that will extend beyond this life, and death itself has been defeated. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, and death itself has met defeat.
“1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
One day this world and the fallen creation will be destroyed with great heat. A new heaven and earth will come into being. Will two plus two still equal four? I’m not sure. But I know that Jesus Christ will be there with His Father and the Holy Spirit. That is a truth for all time and beyond. Jesus called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life. God will continue to be the source and foundation of all truth as He has always been. Take comfort and strength in that.
So now once again the question is asked… What is truth?
Jesus Christ, Son of the Living and Almighty God, is the truth. If you truly want to know the truth, consult the Bible. The Bible is the truth.
